Lichfield Independent Advisory Group

IAG members are volunteers who are independent from police. They act as observers and give critical feedback to the force on how its response to events might affect a community.

The Group is a local initiative intended to improve police and community relations. The success of the Group will depend on the dynamics of its membership. We have the right, appropriate and committed people appointed, and Group members have been chosen for their individual contribution, commitment they can make, and the manner in which they can reflect the diverse communities of the District.

Role description:-

To work co-operatively within the Group to :-
Provide an effective partnership to improve community relations
Advise in the handling and resolution of Critical Incidents
Develop an anti-discriminatory local police service by identifying institutional discrimination and to develop ways to eradicate it
Review, and encourage improvement in, local delivery of police powers and procedures

Main duties of Group members :-

To regularly attend meetings of the Group
Bring personal experience and knowledge to the Group
Give advice to police in accordance with the aims of the Group
Contribute to the discussion and written reports of the Group
Undertake, and contribute to, information gathering on behalf of the Group
Feedback information about the work of the Group to the diverse communities of the City
