Dimbles Lane Incident
Dimbles Lane

One of the principal functions of an IAG is to provide independent scrutiny when the police are investigating a serious incident in the local area. Such an incident took place in the Dimbles area of Lichfield at the end of January and an independent advisory group was convened, at the request of the Lichfield NPU commander and the Senior Investigating Officer.

The group met twice, followed by a further meeting early in March. Its focus was on the community impact of the incident and it had inputs into the group of key community contacts, which the local NPU commander brought together immediately after the incident took place. This group ensured accurate feedback to local residents on the progress of the investigation and assisted in implementing measures designed to inform and reassure.

The IAG is currently studying the steps which the police have taken to reassure all members of the community, with a view to suggesting ways in which such measures might be improved or enhanced. The focus is particularly on vulnerable or 'hard-to-reach' sections of the community where trust and confidence need to be maintained and reinforced.

The conclusions reached by the group were reported to the police in due course. While this report must remain confidential, it is hoped to place a summary of the comments and suggestions made on the website.
